Welcome to Home Alone with SW4!
We return with our 'Talking it out' series, and for our fourth edition we have an exclusive interview from the house music phenomenon Regard, who recently jumped in the mix for us as part of our 'Isolated Sounds' series. You have heard his music, now it's time to get to know Regard himself as he has offered an insight into his inspirations growing up, his opinion on the music scene, and how his smash-hit track 'Ride It' came about!
Let’s start this Q&A by you telling us all where in the world you’re from?
Regard: I come from Ferizaj, a city from Kosovo.
You’ve been making music since 2008… How much has the music industry changed since then?
Regard: Since 2008 it has been changed a lot, my opinion is that the music industry changes every 3 to 5 years.
How old were you when you first started to produce and DJ?
Regard: I’m 26 years old, and I started to produce 6 years ago.
Who inspired you musically growing up?
Regard: Many artists I could choose from for sure, but if I had to choose, 3 of them are: Tiesto, Avicii, Armin van Buuren
You released the house cover of Jay Seans track “Ride It’ – why this track and when did you realise how big this track was going to be?
Regard: It came randomly while I was heading back to my apartament in Croatia where I was performing, and I listened to it on the radio and the idea come to me, even though that I was very tired and a bit drunk! I know it that is big deal but I did not know exactly that it was going to blow up as it is now. It's crazy!
How does the London crowd compare to other crowds around the world?
Regard: London crowds are definitely one of the most different crowds that I have played infront of. In London you must have a real performance, full production and best set that every dj can do in order to win them over!
Have you got any exciting projects in the pipeline?
Regard: Yes definitely I have a few, not much more I can reveal just yet!
You are set to be joined by a lot of amazing UK talent at South West Four… Are there any artists from the UK you would like to work with and why?
Regard: Amazing Line Up, pleasure to be part off. I would say Alesso, for the reason of his sound that’s different and would love to work with him.
Can we expect to hear any new music in your sets when you are back able to play out this summer?
Regard: Of course! This summer I hope to be showcasing 2 of my new releases and 1 surprise only for SW4 when the day comes!
